Scimitar SE6a 3.0L GTE Home
Welcome to my web site.
My name is phil, i live in south wales, UK
I'm 36 yrs old married with 2 children.
Here i will posting the progress i make restoring my
1977 Scimitar SE6 3.0L GTE.
I first purchased this car on 01.03.2006.
When i bought it i was aware of a few problems it had, the main problem i have is smoke coming out of the oil filler/breather cap on the right hand bank. i need to sort this out quickly as the smoke comes in the car when driving.
The first thing i did was to put the car through an M.O.T, just to know what condition the car was in. It failed on a faulty washer bottle and a number plate light bulb was blown. I soon corrected this and now the car has an M.O.T.
I have it insured on classic car insurence with performance direct for 3,000 pounds, this cost me 128.00 pounds. The policy has a 3,500 miles per year limit which is ample.
After taking the advice of a friend, who also happens to be a well respected mechanic, a compression test has been done resulting in 5 out of the 6 cylinders being within the green zone on the test.
However 1 cylinder was just about making the needle on the gauge move.
So my next move now is the removal of the 1 head, i can then identify the problem which i am told is either, a broken piston ring, worn or broken valve, the possibility of a stuck ring or worse case a worn bore.
I am going to do the work myself, i have done work on cars in the past, i can change engine, clutch brakes etc i have a good manual to guide me.
I used to be a CNC programmer/setter making beleve it or not pistons and gudgeon pins rings etc for the very engine i am working on, and have friends still in the company so parts are no problem.
If only i knew then lol i could have made pistons oversized to + .060 for an engine rebore out to a very nice 3.1 L .
